FORCE Technology has developed the Digital Factory Mapping approach. Based on state-of-the-art research, this tool supports the identification of the digitalization projects with the highest production improvement potentials.

The ability to translate digitalization of production into actual value is fundamental for all manufacturers whose competitive advantage is largely built on the performance of their production operations - short delivery times, high cost-efficiency, high-quality standards, high flexibility. But where to start? What are the “low-hanging fruits” and the long-term potentials? What is their actual business value?

To answer these questions, FORCE Technology has developed, within an Industriens Fond-funded MADE project, the Digital Factory Mapping. Based on state-of-the-art research in Operations Management from an Aalborg University Ph.D., this tool takes advantage of the synergic use of the Lean philosophy and the Digital Maturity concept to:

• Identify the most beneficial production improvement opportunities that can be captured through digitalization
  
• Quantify their potential, to support the formulation of a business case
  
• Specify digitalization projects to capture such potential

Taking advantage of the Digital Factory Mapping, FORCE Technology supports its customers in structuring their digital transformation through:

1. One Industry 4.0 awareness seminar, going through the current best practices for improving production through digitalization and facilitating the identification of the customer’s production improvement needs and opportunities
   
2. Two mapping workshops, where production operations are analyzed from both a Lean and Digital Maturity perspective – “physical analysis” and“digital analysis” - and improvement potentials are identified and quantified
   
3. A debriefing session, where specific digitalization projects to capture such potentials and improve production performance are presented and their impact is discussed
   
4. A follow-up session, where advices for kickstarting the projects are provided (e.g. potential partners)
