Deloitte helped the global shipping industry establish a new non-profit association, the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA.org).
This association is set to drive cross-sectoral digital standards for the shipping industry. In the IoT domain, Deloitte helped the industry define and agree on standards for IoT devices (data, SW/HW) and network connectivity, linking the industry to established international standards or making new standards, where existing standards did not apply.
This initiative has helped the global shipping industry achieve shared standards that all vendors and partners to the industry must comply to going forward, ensuring end-to-end interoperability of the industry, e.g. using IoT in tracking, process and port handling automation, goods and transaction transparency, security etc.
The standards will help ease interoperability in future IoT initiatives, prolong investments in IoT, ensure E2E connectivity and enable Internet of Things across the logistics chain of global shipping. Besides IoT, we also helped define standards for process interoperability, industry data model, integrations, e-documents, messages and security.
