Gardena – Smart garden

Connecting three garden products including a robot lawnmower to the Internet, enabling app-based monitoring, control and automation

Before the project, Gardena’s customers could only schedule and control their robot lawnmower through its own interface. Gardena wanted an app to control lawnmowers and other IoT products together. They faced issues with wireless-signal range and scalability for other sensor products. Seluxit, owned by Wirtek, offered a solution with our existing technology and quickly developed embedded hardware in Gardena products, enabling communication with Wirteks IoT Platform via a home gateway. The platform powers the app and forwards product-usage data to Gardena’s ERP.

Wirtek/Seluxit managed the production of Gardena products, sourcing materials, generating unique keys for security, and ensuring certification and testing of radio technology. We also oversees the operation and maintenance of the Gardena Smart system. Internet communication updates deploy bug fixes automatically. The system handles over 5 billion events or 22 TB of data from hundreds of thousands of devices.
