Remote Container Management enables better cargo care

From 2009-2012, Mikkel was the creator and project manager for the Maersk Line Remote Container Management project, where we developed and deployed a remote monitoring and tracking solution for the entire fleet of 250.000 refrigerated containers. This required building the business case from scratch, based solely on operational savings. We also had to design the technology from the ground up, making technology choices between e.g. 3G and satelite, Zigbee and Bluetooth and so on. As this was early days in IoT, it also required building all the tools and algorithms needed for predictive maintenance and other technology needed to provide the necessary savings.

Today, the solution is deployed on more than 400.000 containers and supplying the operational benefits, every day. The customer facing solution, now called Captain Peter, is providing unique insights for customers around the world, with improved food safety and cargo management.
